A series of slides that I took
in the 1980s for an aero modeling project that never reached its
fruition. The aircraft was in the process of having the paint stripped
off in preparation for the RAF colour scheme. See photo on Airliners.net
Apologies
for the poor quality, time has not been too kind to the slides.

As you went in the crew door you
had to climb over the bomb bay. Just beyond is the main spar. It
was difficult enough getting over it with street clothes on, but
to do it when your aircraft is going down, wearing bulky clothing
is another thing. One can not help pausing to think about such things
when you are inside an aircraft such as this.

This slide somehow got mixed in
with the Lancaster batch, my thanks to Dick Richardson for pointing
out my error.

Being a volunteer at Strathallan
gave certain privileges like being able to get up onto the unfinished
galleries. In this picture is the Bolingbroke fuselage, the Anson
nose and the tail of the Hudson.

The nose and RCAF badge. The fairing
for the front turret was removed in preparation for the fitting
of the turret.

On the civilian version, the tail
turret was also removed and faired over.
The inspection panels along the
leading edges are in the open position.
Most of the paint has been stripped
off the fuselage by this stage. Many a happy Sunday was spent with
a can of Aircraft grade Nitromors, a scraper, Scotchbrite pad and
a pair of heavy rubber gloves. That stuff stung like hell if it
got onto your skin!
