This once busy little town was the birthplace to an admiral of the Russian fleet. Samuel Greig (1735-1788)became the Admiral of the Russian Baltic Fleet, winning battles at Chesme and Hogland. A plaque on the wall of the Half Crown commemorates Greigs achievements. Admiral Greig's birthplace. Nearby is the ship breakers yard at Carlingnose point. This yard has broken up many a famous ship including the Mauritania and HMS Rodney. Once owned by T. Ward thie yard is now operated by R.M. Supplies. Ships awaiting the torch
