What a wee beauty this place is.

Found this surveyors benchmark symbol scratched into the stone work, inside the keep on the first floor.

The occupants suffered a visit from a changing rooms make over, the castle was modified twice in its history. The original park is the square keep to the back of this picture, next came an accommodation block with a new front entrance, then came a courtyard, which was never finished due to a lack of money.

After that times got a whole lot more peaceable and the inhabitants turned their attention to more refined things...

.... like a formal, walled garden. Historic Scotland keep the garden immaculate. The custodian recommends visiting the castle in late July or early August to see the garden at its best.
