On emerging from a small cloud (possibly a snow cloud) his aircraft was seen to in some form of difficulties and crashed in what looked like an attempted forced landing. Sgt. Farren, 24 was buried in Grangemouth Cemetery.

Lukomski, while engaged in a flying formation exercise, broke formation prior to landing and was seen from the ground to enter a wisp of cloud, on coming out of the cloud he started spinning and had not sufficient height to recover. Two Batmen from Avondale (House?) Estate extricated the pilot from the aircraft; he was unconscious and died shortly after being admitted to Sick Quarters, Polmont. Sgt. No trace of the pilot could be found, but the snow around is clear of foot-prints 13-3-4l; the wreckage of the Spitfire was reached and the body of the pilot found, and brought to Grangemouth for burial.|
